Day 127 - Book Week

It was Book Week last week, and it was a big deal in our household, as well as for most schools and children throughout the country. Both daycare and school were thriving with a drive to increase focus on reading, learning, and discovering the world, as well as ourselves throughout the week which is fantastic for the kids.
The primary dress-up day for the kids was late last week, and as part of the day, the school held a parade for all the students.
As I observed the kids walking around, the pride and passion radiating from them as they stood up and showcased their costumes to everyone in the assembly area was amazing. There were a few hundred spectators, parents, etc., and it was a wonderful experience to see. The costumes were fantastic, and the effort that was put into them great.
Seeing the effort involved in making their costumes and the connection the kids had to the relevant books was great. It made me think about role models, mythological figures, fictional characters, and a variety of other primary and even secondary characters, and how they have the capacity to create a deep and profound impression on children and all people, regardless of our age.
Books, reading, and learning through this medium is an intimate experience, and one that, depending on your learning style, have the deepest absorption rate. When you are truly absorbed in a book, it has the ability to take you to another world, a different time, a new dimension, as well as the ability to transform your mind into one of determination, motivation, and appreciation of and for the relevant topic.
When I watch my kids listen and learn about books, ask questions, and immerse themselves in the characters, I can see just how beneficial books can be in contributing to the development of not only children but all of us. Listening and watching, of course, create the same emotions and can teach us an array of life lessons.
Book Week served as a reminder of the power and importance of reading, learning, and embracing the imaginative worlds that books can provide. It reminded me of the significant impact these experiences can have on both children and adults alike and the wonderful fulfillment, purpose and happiness they can bring.
Thanks,
