Day 199 - Kant

Immanuel Kant was a German philosopher born in the 18th century, also known as the Enlightenment period. He was raised in a very religious family in Konigsberg, the kingdom of Prussia (Russia). He was born there, lived his entire life there, and finished his life there.

I found Kant's philosophical approach to life very forthright and, for many aspects, a wonderful portrayal of what it means to be human, and a fantastical approach to finding fulfillment, purpose, and happiness in life. He emphasized following a set of individualized moral values, treating others as you wish to be treated, and maintaining a state of balance and respect in our interactions with all people. He famously stated, "Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of any other, never merely as a means to an end, but always at the same time as an end."

One of the most profound insights I found while learning about Kant was that even though he was raised in a very religious family, and respected the significance and importance that various religious sects provided for society, he believed in maintaining one's own moral code regardless of societal expectations. It is important to stay true to who you are at all times, regardless of the outcome or others' opinions. Win or lose, we must always be true to ourselves.

Kant also outlined the importance of keeping busy and managing our time wisely. He was an incredibly organized person throughout his entire life, which likely contributed strongly to his ability to find meaning and purpose in life. His philosophy of Transcendental Idealism has greatly influenced the future of the Western world.

He was a man who prioritized morals, values, and the pursuit of being a good person for the right reasons. He had incredible discipline and maintained a focused perspective on his goals throughout his life. He strongly believed in the importance of respecting the world, people, and animals, as they reflect the capacity and purity of our hearts.

I think his ideology and philosophical approach to the world, and humans in particular, was that our lives and environments are simply a projection of the people we are. If we want to live a life full of joy and happiness, we must project these qualities into the world. We must live the life we want to be in by maintaining the values and standards of someone we admire. Immanuel Kant had a wonderful outlook on life, and I believe his philosophy can strongly contribute to the search for happiness.
