The Search 4 Happiness

Day 232 - Space

In our lives, all we really have is space and time: space to pursue wants, needs, and desires; space to enjoy the company of friends, family, and the world around us; space to learn, develop, and grow; and space to find peace, internal dialogue, and understanding. There are various aspects of our lives that require us to find space, and we only have a certain amount of time to fill it in.

The concept of space and time is somewhat fallacious because we have simply created the idea, formed it through words and descriptions of what is. In life and the pursuit of happiness, how we allocate our time and fill the space within our minds, souls, and lives is a vital component in finding true happiness. Sometimes, with life's various demands, trying to find a work-life balance while society increasingly demands more of our time, there is less availability for space, pushing us further away from the original freedom we had when we were young, with copious amounts of space and time to develop into the people we truly wish to become.

Socrates said, "The secret of happiness, you see, is not found in seeking more but in developing the capacity to enjoy less." I think the ability to increase the space in our worlds, develop avenues to have more time, and learn to understand, flourish, and enjoy every aspect of our lives more deeply is to simplify our worlds and develop a mindset in which we truly understand what is important to us, pursue the understanding of the avenues in our lives in which create true growth and fulfillment.

Materialism, societal expectations, social media and the misconceived idealism portrayed by mass media to steal us towards consumerism in life has skewed our worlds in believing wanting more creates a deeper understanding and feeling of fulfilment in life, and although some of these surface level things provide short term feelings of satisfaction, fulfillment, and happiness, they all have an expiry date. When in reality if we simplify our wants, needs, and desires, we have the ability to find solace and peace in all we have now, and subsequently create more space and time in our lives, because all we really have is space and time, and how we chose to develop them is completely up to us, and the decisions we make impact the outcome of our search for happiness.
