Some of my closest friends had a new baby boy last week named Stanley. This afternoon I popped over and had my first chance to meet him.

There’s something so magical about a human baby, the smell, the wrinkles, the little bits of fluff, the innocence and calmness. I’ve known these friends of mine for about 7 years now, they are probably one of my closest and dearest friends but also some of the only ones that I’ve met as an adult. The majority of my closest friends are old friends from school.

It’s one thing to hold and cuddle a baby, the warmth and magic can absorb you as a new life has entered the world and your one of only souls it’s yet to meet. But it’s another thing when some of your closest friends, friends that you’ve shared many memories with, many long nights and hung over days, adventures, weddings and a variety of emotions along the way. It’s another thing when they bring a new soul into the world.

I sat there this afternoon having a beer and catching up with my friends like a very normal Friday afternoon but as we sat there, I felt the breathing of Stanley, the warmth of his soul, the smell of his fresh skin and connection between us beginning. It was a wonderful moment, a moment that everyone should always cherish because your witnessing the beginning of a new humans life, your feeling their energy start to flow through the world and for a moment time stood still, I looked at him and felt incredibly happy, happy to meet him, happy to feel his soul for the first time, so happy for my friends.

Connection, understanding, emotion, energy, thought, friendship and wonder. Enjoy every moment you have and even though it may seem like you’re just getting to hold a baby for the first time, which is lovely in itself. Remember that this is one of their first moments, they won’t remember it, but you always will and in that moment you will have and share a memory with a new soul that they will never know.

Happy Birthday Stanley! May your journey be filled with laughter, learning and love. I’ll be watching from the front row!

Thanks,

Dean
