The Search 4 Happiness

Day 286 - Sleep

I've been monitoring my sleep patterns a lot more lately, and it's interesting to see just how affected my sleep can be by either alcohol (which could just be one drink), sugar, or food too close to bedtime. And because of this, I’ve started to monitor my resting heart rate, rem and deep sleep, consistency, and overall rating of each night. It's only as I've gotten older that I’ve realized and taken more interest in understanding just how important sleep is and the effects it has on my day-to-day life if it's not maintained correctly.

Sleep is such an important facet of our lives, and our ability (or more so, our inability) to maintain consistency in sleep can have detrimental effects on our weight, health, mood, energy, and various other contributing factors to our happiness.

On average, I will get between 6-8 hours of sleep, and swaying too far either side of those figures can have a significant impact. Sleeping too much can make me feel lethargic and slow. Sleeping too little, on the other hand, makes me feel emotional, weak, lacking energy, and with an overarching fog in my mind which clouds my thoughts, drastically reducing my efficiency and productivity throughout the day.

In addition to the mentioned impacts on physical and mental health, sufficient sleep also plays a crucial role in our search for happiness by promoting emotional stability and improves our ability to regulate our emotions more effectively. When we get enough sleep, we are better equipped to handle fluctuations in our lives, maintain positive relationships, and experience a greater sense of overall fulfillment and satisfaction. Prioritizing quality sleep not only directly contributes to our happiness but also sets a strong foundation for our growth, development, and overall well being.

Thanks,
