The Search 4 Happiness

Day 302 - Thoughts

2/21/20242 min read

I started off writing this post tonight around expectations and not allowing an expectation to dictate your train of thought. Then I thought about train of thought and how that dictates your happiness, and chose to write about the importance of maintaining state of mind. However, as I sat down to write something unexpected happened, and my wife and daughter fell over on the stairs. This caused panic and an emotional explosion occurred, all of which happened within 30 minutes.

We are constantly confronted with a range of emotional fluctuations based on what has happened in the past, what’s happening at this very moment, and the future potential for something to happen. Each of which comes with a different state of mind, perspective, understanding, and solution. However, each can be contained and the output of emotions managed through our own inner balance.

One common theme I have read about and absorbed through a range of different concepts and ideologies is the importance of maintaining a steady emotional balance. The ability to manage our thoughts and not allow ourselves to sway too far on either side of the break line is essential in our search for happiness. Our thoughts dictate our perception of the world, and through that perception, we can see, do, and be whatever and whoever we want to be.

Like many concepts, ideas, and frameworks that saturate our information channels, it is easy to resonate with a significant portion of them. Whether we are watching famous motivational speakers or reading about ancient philosophy that emphasizes the importance of the quality of our thoughts, it can lead us in the right direction. However, like the fundamental message itself, in order for us to understand and believe, we must allow the message to take root in our minds, much like a seed blossoms into a flower. We must learn to comprehend the message and its true meaning, practice its teachings, and over time, integrate it into our very being.

I started off tonight on a rollercoaster of emotions. I chose to talk about a negatively charged idea on the search for happiness, then a rebuttal with a positive idea. Then, I was confronted with stress and emotional turmoil, only to find peace and solitude in the present moment. I wouldn’t say I have mastered anything, but through reflection on those moments and understanding of the present, I have learned something, and something has evolved deeper within myself.

We are whatever we believe

Thanks,
