The Search 4 Happiness
Day 303 -Expectations

Expectations in life are a dangerous yet daily occurrence within all humans. We expect the sun to rise and the darkness to follow. We expect the wind to blow and the rain to pour. We expect to ask questions of ourselves and to seek answers through the same channel. There are a wide array of expectations, many are default worldly and individual functions. However, when we place too much expectation on others or variable external factors, we jeopardize our own security and increase the risk of failure, loss, or simply being let down.
Our happiness is most certainly dictated by our own thoughts and decisions. It is our ability to contemplate and select the most suitable and desirable outcomes for our lives that creates a secure and nurturing foundation to build upon.
In life, by default, it is a natural human instinct to have expectations of our family and closest friends. Expectations to uphold values, morals, and standards that we have been raised to follow or are connected by. However, when we place too much expectation on friends or family, we expose our own security and increase the potential for them to either let us down or for our own expectations to harm ourselves.
The only expectation we can ever truly rely on is our own expectation of ourselves, our own expectation of the output that we are capable of. Part of the search for happiness is understanding that our expectations of others and the world around us are fallacies, and truly being in control is not having an expectation of any person or situation, any outcome, or idea. The only expectation we should have is the one we create for ourselves, and if we continually meet our expectation, then continually increase said expectation, the sky is the limit. If we expect happiness of ourselves, then happiness is what will ensue.
Don’t expect anything from anyone, but expect the everything of yourself.
