I’ve been following Bryan Johnson and a project he’s working on called The Blueprint. Basically through an assortment of scientifically designed testing protocols and measurements he is attempting to design the ideal system, process and/or protocol to maximise a humans physical and mental profile. He completes a wide variety of tests on a daily/weekly basis and compares the relevant bio markers against the common averages.

I think the project is an amazing initiative and it could very well have an incredibly significant impact of humankind. Over the past 50 years through mass production, somewhat corrupted food advisory boards and large corporations seeking to maximise profits, through a steady incremental reduction in quality in exchange for cheaper, less nutritious alternative options in processed foods, they have contributed to an increase in disease, obesity and various other detrimental impacts in society, and yet they still manage to divert any actual attention and subsequent blame on themselves. I think the combination of the above outcomes from mass production, societies perception of happiness through materialism and surface level attainment, collapse in morals and values in search of the ‘quick buck’ and various other modern day things that create additional hurdles in finding happiness within yourself have created this misguided, complex and confused lifestyle and pursuit of an illusionary end goal.

One of the most impactful things I hear from

Bryan is his ability to search and create of processes that take away the requirement of thought, set up a automatic and systematic approaches to living the most efficient and productive way of physical and mental human existence, to subsequently create more brain capacity to be free for thought and more specific tasks to maximise humans happiness. Another part of his methodology is normalising the reduction/removal of self destructive behaviours like alcohol and drug abuse, processed foods, over stimulation in technology and excessive entrainment, because this is just all a form of escapism and play no true value in our lives. Or dose it?

I believe in what he’s doing, I’ve started incorporating elements of it into my lifestyle and paying close attention to his progress on a weekly basis but it has raised the question in my mind of what it’s all really about. The perfect systematic approach to living life in regards to nutrition, exercise, sleep and balance dose seem achieve able, but at what cost to you day to day enjoyment? Do these self destructive behaviours in a way lead to a state of mind that contributes to happiness? Maybe so but at what cost and how to you equate these sacrifices on a macro scale to every other aspect of our lives?

As I get older and as my body starts to slow down somewhat. I definitely take a more proactive approach to nutrition, exercise, recovery, reduction in various self destructive behaviours and a more systematic approach to my daily routine and sleep patterns. I do question where the balance lies. Throughout my life various self destructive behaviours have contributed to amazing and life changing experiences, creation of life long relationships and everlasting memories that I share with some of those closest to me but I know that they have all been at a sacrifice to my body and mind to an extent, that extent is unknown but I know it dose exist.

What is it all about? How do we find balance within the space of what contributes the most to our happiness?
Everyone’s different and that question can only truly be answered by yourself, but these questions are important and finding that deep connection is a critical step in the search for happiness.

Thanks,
