The Search 4 Happiness

Day 336 - Lesson 9 - Nothing

Sometimes in life and in the search for happiness, we are left to feel nothing - no emotional charge, low energy, just traversing space and time - and that’s fine. It’s okay to just be, without any pressure or requirements to be or do anything.

One thing about our society is that because of how it is constructed, with both formal and informal hierarchical structures in our work, our family, communities, and various other aspects of our lives, there is an expectation to live up to ‘the norm.’ In reality, this is a fallacy, and every person can march to the beat of their own drum.

I think it’s important to reiterate this lesson because with so many external pressures from the world at large and the people closest to us, it’s crucial to reflect and understand that there is no expectation to be anything or anyone.

Although I believe there are various contributing factors or ingredients in the search for happiness, one of these is the acceptance of nothing, because that is fine too. For some, this may just be the essence of true happiness - the pure release of any external expectation to simply be.

Over the past few months, especially as I looked deeper into different philosophies, philosophers, and various influential texts, it was clear of the importance of introspection, emotional control, growth, and the pursuit of becoming a better person, as well as various other common themes. However, there was limited acknowledgment of nothing. Meditating alone and finding solitude in our own minds is important, but within that isolation, it is okay to be nothing, to live and be as if time stands still.

Thanks,
