Being authentic is such a simple approach to life but in reality so many people struggle to be who they really are. I’ve definitely had various moments throughout my life whereby I have opted to try and be someone I’m not to fit in or to impress someone or to create this fake personality within myself to ironically make myself feel more authentic.

Understanding who you are is easier said than done and being who you are is most definitely difficult for many. The balance of pursuing growth, success and happiness can be greatly effected by the choices you make in your day to day, about what you truly believe in, what you truly feel is right and who you truly want to become.

Understanding yourself and understanding what being authentic looks and feels like takes time and experience. Sure many people are authentically themselves from the get go and know deep down who they are instinctively, immediately as soon as they process their thoughts.

When I meet new people and discuss thoughts and ideas, interests and different perspectives, I am immediately drawn deeper into the conversation depending on how authentic I feel the person is being to me. I try to treat all people with utmost respect and have no preconceived judgement of who they are, however, I think as time passes and my experience in the world has increased. I have a better understanding of people and am more familiar with what I believe as authentic.

I know for myself that when I try to insert myself into a conversation to try and impress someone or try to include myself in the group without actually having a clue, I fail most times and am left to feel out of place. However, when I am being the most authentic version of myself the conversations are more driven and enjoyable, sure sometimes people just aren’t into what you have to say but in those moments I would far prefer to be myself, my authentic self, the most comfortable version of myself I could ever be. Because being authentic is a fundamental element of your own internal happiness.

Trying to be something or someone your not will inevitably result in failure, failing yourself, failing your pursuit of said goal or aspirations, failing in achieving the search for happiness. It may seem like you can achieve greatness but if your not being authentic to yourself then what is it really all about?

There’s only one of you so being you for you is the most unique and amazing version the world could ever see.

Your wonderful,

Dean
