The Search 4 Happiness
Day 73 - Ambition

Being ambitious is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it is a crucial element in progressing towards something, in search of continuous improvement and aspiration to reach a higher level, which is fantastic. However, being overly ambitious and aiming for unreasonable targets can create dangers of expectation versus reality, success versus failure focus.
Aiming for the stars is important. Even though it may seem like a scary thought process, it is crucial to set targets outside of your general capabilities. This creates a drive to be better and subsequently can push you to level up in your chosen avenue. This is relevant in all areas of growth and pursuit. I believe that, although difficult at times, you should always strive to be a little bit better than you were yesterday, today, and better than you are today, tomorrow.
Ambition encompasses an understanding of self-worth and competency, aspiration, drive, as well as a deep instinctual desire to achieve more. The instinctual element is the key factor here and likely the most common separating factor between competitors and all humans alike, especially at the highest levels of any chosen field. As I think more about ambition, goals, and success, I have begun leaning towards open-ended goals of growth with milestone goals as achievement centres to reaffirm your objective and ensure you are on track.
Ambition can be a powerful driver in our lives. It gives us a sense of purpose, assists us in moving forward, and helps fuel our motivation. When we set ambitious goals for ourselves, it ignites a fire within us to strive for greatness. The satisfaction of achieving milestones and reaching new heights brings immense joy and fulfillment. Ambition pushes us out of our comfort zones and helps us discover our true potential.
Ambition contributes strongly to personal growth and development. It encourages us to continuously learn, acquire new skills, and expand our knowledge. By pushing ourselves beyond our limits, we gain valuable experiences and become more resilient in the face of challenges. The outcome of overcoming said challenges enhances our overall well-being and contributes to a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment in our lives.
However, there is a line between healthy ambition and over-ambition and crossing can lead to a variety of challenges. While ambition can lead to happiness, over-ambition can often become a big contributing factor of stress, anxiety, and disappointment. When we set unrealistic goals or constantly strive for completely unattainable perfection, we set ourselves up for failure. The relentless pursuit of success at all costs can take a toll on our mental and emotional well-being. It can lead to a feeling of constant failure and the clouded feeling of never being good enough.
It is essential to find a balance between ambition and contentment. Setting high but achievable goals allows us to maintain our drive while also recognizing and appreciating our journey and accomplishments along the way. Celebrating small wins and practicing acknowledgement of self are crucial in ensuring long-term happiness and fulfillment.
Ambition is a powerful force that can greatly contribute to our happiness and personal growth. It fuels our motivation, pushes us to reach new heights, and brings a sense of fulfillment when we achieve our goals. However, it is crucial to find balance and avoid falling into the trap of over-ambition. By setting realistic and achievable goals, celebrating our progress and striving to be better, we can harness the positive aspects of ambition while protecting our overall well-being and creating a greater possibility of success in the search for happiness.
